Shaping the future of the Scottish Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship

November 15, 2023

SNIPEF, in collaboration with Skills Development Scotland (SDS), has published an online stakeholder survey as phase one of its comprehensive review of the Scottish Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship. This review has begun two years ahead of its scheduled timeline, reflecting the urgent need and calls from employers to address the evolving demands of the profession.

A central aspect of the review is the full appraisal of the current curriculum. This is important in light of the heightened demand for renewable technology skills, notably heat pump design, installation and maintenance, and the increasing requirements from the government to meet their net-zero ambitions.

The online stakeholder survey aims to understand industry prerequisites for the revised apprenticeship better. While individual responses will be treated confidentially, the collated insights will be instrumental in tailoring and aligning the apprenticeship to meet industry requirements.

Technical Expert Groups
Within the online survey, we invite employers to register for the upcoming Technical Expert Group (TEG). Participation in these sessions provides employers a platform to influence and guide the trajectory of professional skills development and training. Details about joining the TEG are available within the survey. Interested parties can also directly contact Laura Brady at laura.brady@sds.co.uk.

The apprenticeship review's success is contingent on its stakeholders' insights. As employers, your perspective is invaluable.  Please participate in this pivotal research and let us collaboratively ensure the apprenticeship's redesign truly encapsulates the industry's requirements.
